Konrad Irlbacher has been developing new solutions and innovations to improve biking with indefatigable creative ingenuity, together with our design team for 20 years. Corratec solutions raise the yardstick in the bike industry a little higher year after year, delighting customers, surprising competitors and inciting copycats to burn the midnight oil. Our innovative strength has been the key to success in over 50 countries. With corratec you‘re always ahead. Athletic, advanced and innovative. It was more than 20 years ago that Konrad Irlbacher introduced the first Corratec bikes with a small team. The intention was to be always different – however, not just forced to look different than others. Being different meant at that time, just as it means today, to be better, more innovative, and not easy to copy, but to develop spontaneously and set trends. Looking back at what Corratec has developed in the last 20 years, we will find many products that have been at Corratec for years which are offered today as big novelty by other manufacturers. For this reason, the current product range will surprise, stimulate and inspire many. That‘s what makes up Corratec.

In 1898, the company founded by Hans Deuter, received its first major order for the postal service: bags and side bags for postmen. Backpacks followed then for military purposes. But soon Deuter turned to mountain sports. The legendary Tauern pack was launched in 1930 and remained for decades as a classical piece for climbers, as proven in the German expedition to Nanga Parbat. In the past, as now, the experiences of climbers, mountain guides and bikers are the focus of product development at Deuter. The Deuter has been a partner in the last 110 years and has been looking for the best innovations: ventilation systems, the best techniques and materials and even more practical functions for devices already known. The desire to follow the adventurous and pioneering spirit is part of the Deuter tradition and this tradition is now part of History!

In 1967, it was already then it first started, with the Swedish-American man called Mr Chester Wickenberg. He came to the world-famous table-tennis company STIGA with his idea of making a pump which pumped air in both the pull and push stroke! The idea was patented and the Original QUICKER pump was born. STIGA had a huge success with this pump and quickly conquered the market for air-mattress pumps in Sweden. In 1973, the success with the Original Quicker was followed up with the second double action pump in the world named Miniquicker. In 1991, came the idea of making a smaller model, which was going to be used for inflating for balls and bicycles! It was then decided to exhibit at the international bicycle fair in Germany to market the Quicker Micro. The response was fantastic for this small, but yet so effective bicycle and ball pump! In 1997, the idea to produce a small bicycle pump that could inflate higher pressure was born. The technique MULTI CHAMBER DOUBLE ACTION was patented and is now the fastest and strongest pump system in the world!

In 1984 a small group of climbers from the world’s flattest continent pulled off an audacious ascent of Mount Everest – they put a new route up the north face in lightweight style with no oxygen or sherpa support. Six years later, one of the summiteers, Tim Macartney-Snape decided to return to Everest after he realized neither he nor any other person who had climbed the mountain had truly climbed the entire 8,848 meters, as that would have meant starting from sea level. That is, no one had yet climbed it from “sea to summit”. Four months later, after climbing alone from Base Camp and without the assistance of oxygen, he set foot once again on the highest point on earth. Tim’s solo ascent of Mt. Everest was named the “Sea to Summit” expedition. Back in Australia, Tim joined forces with climbing friend, sewing enthusiast and design guru Roland Tyson to build a business that could make use of their knowledge of the outdoors to create truly ingenious, well-made but affordable outdoor equipment. They named their company Sea to Summit after Tim’s expedition and the business prospered. Today the Sea to Summit brand continues to provide innovative gear and serves a growing band of outdoor enthusiasts all over the world.
